Here's a list of our current needs:
- The "Silence" Project - We're in the planning and fundraising phase of an outreach project based on the 2013 release of the Martin Scorsese film entitled "Silence". Based on the book by the same name, written by well-known author Shusaku Endo, "Silence" tells the story of the persecution of Christians in Japan during the Tokugawa era (1600's). We are leading an intentional effort in partnership with others to play off the publicity this film will receive, crafting outreach materials that will connect Japanese audiences in both Japan and the US with presentations of the Gospel and invitations to find out more. $50,000 needed. UPDATE Feb 12 - $10,000 was recently donated toward this need!
- Disaster Relief -the need is ongoing. We are partnering with Christian relief organizations to assist with material and spiritual resources for victims of the Great Tohoku Quake and its aftermath.
- Ministries of Presence - $36,500 needed
Two alumni of our Nippon Initiative Summer Ministry Teams are returning to Japan to serve in outreach ministries. One-time gifts are needed for their support. In addition, the Nippon Initiative will be sending a team to Japan in the summer of 2012 to assist a Christian organization with an English camp for adults and teens. This camp uses English instruction to introduce people to the Gospel and to minister to their spiritual needs. We also are seeking to help other partners of the Nippon Initiative with ministries of presence needs arising from the recent devaluation of the dollar against the yen.
- Web and Social Media Development - $7000 needed
- Outreach Materials - $6000 needed
